Naad : The Sound Of Universe
Nizami Bandhu is India’s oldest and most illustrious Sufi qawwali ensemble, with a history that stretches back to 1350. They are often called the “qawwal bachche” (children of the qawwali) because they were first trained by the great Amir Khusro at the Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi. Over generations—now into the 29th, 30th, or even 31st—this musical lineage has been passed down, each member from childhood dedicated to the art. Today, the ensemble is led by Shadab and Sohrab Nizami, who grew up immersed in this tradition. They’ve not only preserved it but also brought it to the global stage, featuring in iconic Bollywood songs such as “Kun Faya Kun” in the film Rockstar, and soulful tracks in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, “Kalank,” and more. Their family tradition, rooted in the Sikanderabad gharana, continues to thrive, with upcoming films set to feature their spiritual and captivating voice once again.
